Hey Charles!
Thank you for a BRILLIANT koncert, the other night at Hz in Denmark. I was over the top happy. It was very nice to talk to/with you about music. That meant a lot to me. It seems like, to me , that we had a good and fruitful conversation! Í´m going to send you some of my songs through Andreas! All the best from yr danish friend: Marie

I was recently shown your previous band " this heat " and every since hearing the record " DECIT " i have become a huge fan of your records and a friend of mine found a song titled " Good Side " we both have been looking everywhere to figure out where this song came from. and I wanted to know if you could tell the name of the release or unreleased cd this is on. and if there are MORE songs somewhere. such a great band.

Best, Julian

Hi Charles. I just found out about your presence on the internet. But have been following you for about thirty years (yes I have the age for that). I have always loved your songwriting (to me 'survive the gesture' is one of the most beautiful song records I own), & I think you're one of the most creative drummers around. Too bad I only managed once to attend one of your concerts (here in Brussels several years ago). Keep up the good work & hope to hear from you soon. Ciao

I had just lost everything...my business, my dog, my grip on reality. I lost my girlfriend too, but I didn't really care so much about that. My life was starting to feel like an existential country song and I was in need of remedy.
In hindsight it was a bit dramatic, but I decided to sell or give away everything I owned. With the little money I had left I bought some camping gear and headed for the woods. Over the course of weeks I spent out there in the cold month of February I had many strange dreams. I wrote each one I remembered down. And it was in one of these strange dreams in the forest that I learned of Charles Hayward. Of course in my journal I wrote down the name "Heywood", and noted that I thought this was misspelled but couldn't remember the real name. Dreams are strange beasts, and like many, this particular one didn't have much in the way of an easily read plot. I won't go into the details, but I doubt Mr.Hayward is in the habit of wearing strange masks or throwing duffel bags into streams surrounded by wheat. Like I said, I can't really claim to know or understand my dreams- but seeing him in a dream before I ever heard/knew anything about him in hindsight was startling. It was a definite revelation when I chanced upon "A New Kind of Water" playing on the radio a few months after my time in the forest...I remember that day the same way people remember Kennedy being shot, or the towers falling. All I can say is, thank you for doing what you do, and providing so much inspiration. One thing I know for sure...the forest knows your name.

Hi,
I just had a long post deleted because I had to set up my account. So will summarize: I have been in love with Rongwrong for what is now most of my life. I knew you went on to Gong, but forgot or didn't realize all the other ensembles you were with that I also was fond of/ played on the radio in Houston, etc. If you know of any text with background info on the song Rongwrong, I would love to read it. Thank you for many years of inspiration and musical questions.

hello Charles, well i was really surprised by your concert at the RIO festival.
I knew you from Quiet Sun, This Heat, Camberwell Now and some solo albums but did not know you were still around. So your performance was for me a really unexpected highlight were you showed us a lot of your diversity. thanks again and hi will now look often on your webpage to see if you are planning some gigs again.
kind regards from Andre in Netherlands.

Hi Charles! This is Chad Parker, we met at RIO in Carmaux. You did a great set! As I said before, if you're on the East Coast shoot me an e-mail and we'll put something together with the cello. cgoodman.parker@yahoo.com

Hello Charles - another RIOfest attendee here!

Although I spoke to you briefly at the festival I thought I'd leave you a more coherent message here to say thank you for your amazing performance. It was stark, scary, and exhilarating - bleak and humorous and all sorts of other adjectives which I will not bore you with! ;-) Suffice to say that I am still telling people about it!

And... I just saw that you are doing a gig in Exeter! If time permits I hope I can be there. It'd be great to hear more! :-)

Thank you again,

Melissa
